Master calligrapher Mojtaba Daneshi from Iran will lead an in-depth workshop on the historical background, materials and methods of Persian calligraphy. Mojtaba will demonstrate the traditional and experimental techniques he has developed over the years, including carving wet paint on canvas. Participants will complete a unique work on canvas to take home. No experience necessary, adults only please. Cost per person, includes materials, museum admission and tax.

Mojtaba Daneshi (b. Iran, 1978) is an artist, actor and musician. He teaches Persian calligraphy and Santoor at Nava Art Centre in North Vancouver. Daneshi has studied Persian calligraphy with several instructors such as Yadollah kaboli, Ali khanlarzadeh and Hossein Parniyan, and painting with Alireza sadaghdar and Hossein kashiyan. He has also trained in acting and music such as Santoor and Tombak, and performs regularly.

All participants are invited to join a curator’s tour of Traces of Words: Art and Calligraphy from Asia, led by Fuyubi Nakamura at 12 pm.
