Audrey and Harry Hawthorn Library + Archives Committee
The Audrey and Harry Hawthorn Library and Archives (AHHLA) is home to an excellent collection of research material that complements the Museum’s object collections. It is a valuable resource for museum staff, the university community and the general public.
The Library’s strengths are museology, Northwest Coast material culture, and world ceramics and textiles. The Archives holds both institutional and private records that document museum functions and aid the Museum in carrying out its various activities. Additionally, it supplies abundant research opportunities for students, authors, documentary filmmakers, First Nations researchers and many others.
Volunteers on this committee should enjoy working alone on projects that are initiated by the Research Manager. Volunteers generally work independently, often on work that is very detail-oriented. Computer skills are a must and experience with databases and Excel spreadsheets are a valuable asset. Library and/or archives experience is helpful but not necessary as training for individual projects will be provided by the Research Manager. The committee works only during the AHHLA open hours, Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.
All new volunteers are required to attend all sessions of MOA 101: Introductory Training Seminar. Dates will be announced during our active recruitment period. Training will continue with the Research Manager after MOA 101.
- 2 years on the Library and Archives Committee
- 2–3 hours per week during AHHLA open hours
- Attendance General Meetings for all volunteers. These take place six times a year on Monday afternoons in September, November, January, March, April and June
- Attendance at Library and Archives Committee meetings, generally two per year
