The Bill McLennan Research Award

The Bill McLennan Research Award was established by the Doggone Foundation to honour the legacy of MOA Curator Bill McLennan, who was deeply committed to promoting and supporting research linked to Indigenous Northwest Coast art and its broader historical contexts.

This award is to support student research into Indigenous Northwest Coast art, culture, history or technologies. In keeping with Bill McLennan’s interdisciplinary research approach, UBC students enrolled in any discipline, whether undergraduate or graduate, are eligible.

Award Amount

$3,500. In addition, a MOA staff member will be appointed to act as a mentor.

Eligibility

UBC undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in any discipline are eligible. Students may only hold this award once in their career at UBC.

Application Procedure

Students are asked to submit an application using the form below. Please collect all the information you need before completing the application. The application must include the following information:

  • Title of your project
  • Description of your project (max. 2,000 characters): what you are interested in learning about
  • Methods (max. 800 characters): how you plan to undertake this research
  • Project timeline
  • Knowledge mobilization plan (max. 800 characters): knowledge mobilization can take many forms and could include a community presentation, a poster for a conference, a newsletter, a blogpost, a performance, a workshop, a short video, or an exhibition.
  • References: names and contact information for two references
  • Your CV (as attachment)
  • Your unofficial UBC transcripts (as attachment)
