A Future for Memory: A Conversation with Atsunobu Katagiri and Fumihiko Futakami

Join MOA for a virtual conversation with Atsunobu Katagiri, a featured artist in A Future for Memory: Art and Life After the Great East Japan Earthquake and Fumihiko Futakami, Curator of the Minamisōma City Museum. The conversation will be facilitated by MOA Curator Fuyubi Nakamura.
The guest speakers will discuss their personal experiences and involvement in the recovery process following the 2011 triple disaster. Katagiri will share his artistic connection to Minamisōma City in Fukushima Prefecture, and Futakami will speak about his experience working with artists who came to make art in his region, including Katatgiri and Masao Okabe, who are featured in A Future for Memory, from the perspective of a curator from the disaster region.
The conversation (pre-recorded in Japanese, with English subtitles) will be followed by a live Q & A with Atsunobu Katagiri (in English).
Atsunobu Katagiri is a kadō-ka (ikebana master) based in Osaka and worked in Minamisōma City in Fukushima Prefecture for nearly a year following the 3.11 disaster. Katagiri’s ikebana style is diverse, ranging from the traditional to works with a contemporary art approach, and he has collaborated with numerous artists of different backgrounds.
Fumihiko Futakami is a curator at the Minamisōma City Museum. He was born and raised in Minamisōma City, and specializes in the history of the city. After the 3.11 disaster, he has supported artists who have come to work in Minamisōma. He is one of the key collaborators for A Future for Memory.
Dr. Fuyubi Nakamura is a sociocultural anthropologist and Curator, Asia at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. She is the curator for A Future for Memory, which derives from the past ten years of her engagement with the disaster region.

『記憶のための未来―東日本大震災後のアートと暮らし』に出展している華道家・片桐功敦さんと南相馬市博物館学芸員の二上文彦さんとの対談です。展覧会担当キュレーターの中村冬日が進行役をつとめます。
震災後の復興における経験や取り組みについてお話されます。片桐さんは作品制作を通しての南相馬市とのつながりについて、二上さんは3.11を直接経験した者としての視点から、被災地の学芸員としての試みについてお話されます。二上さんは「記憶のための未来」展出展作家の片桐功敦さんや岡部昌生さんをはじめ、震災後に南相馬市を訪れた多くのアーティストと活動をしてきました。
対談は事前に録画されたもので、日本語で行います(英語字幕付き)。対談後には片桐さんがライブで英語による質疑応答を行います。
片桐功敦(かたぎり あつのぶ)は大阪在住の華道家。震災後、2013年12月から約一年にわたり南相馬市で暮らしながら、花を生けた。片桐のいけなばのスタイルは伝統から現代美術的なアプローチまで幅広く異分野の作家とのコラボレーションも多数。
二上 文彦(ふたかみ ふみひこ)福島県南相馬市生まれ。南相馬市博物館学芸員で、相馬地方の歴史を専門とする。震災後は南相馬をフィールドとするアーティストの活動サポートを行っている。「記憶のための未来」展の重要な協力者の一人。
中村冬日(なかむら ふゆび)博士 社会文化人類学者、ブリティッシュ・コロンビア大学人類学博物館(MOA)アジア担当キュレーター。『記憶のための未来』展担当キュレーター。当展は中村の震災後の被災地での活動がきっかけとなっている。
