『記憶のための未来』展: 岡部昌生・港千尋対談
5月18日(火)午後7時(カナダ太平洋時間・サマータイム)
5月19日(水)午前11時(日本時間)
The artists will discuss their artistic practices and involvement in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, and provide background for their works on view in A Future for Memory. Both artists have collaborated on many projects including, Is There a Future for Our Past?: The Dark Face of the Light, which represented Japan at the 52nd Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition in 2007.
The conversation (pre-recorded in Japanese, with English subtitles) will be followed by a live Q+A session with Chihiro Minato (in English).
Masao Okabe is an artist based in Hokkaidō, and has continued to create works that evoke memories inherent in objects through traces left by places and time, using various techniques including frottage. He has participated in major international exhibits, including the Venice Biennale, and collaborated in many projects.
Chihiro Minato is a photographer and explores themes of image development and memory, and engages in a diverse range of activities that include art making, writing and curation. Minato is Professor in the Department of Information Design and a member of the Institute for Art Anthropology, Tama Art University, Tokyo.
Dr. Fuyubi Nakamura is a sociocultural anthropologist and Curator, Asia at the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. She is the curator for A Future for Memory, which derives from the past ten years of her engagement with the disaster region.
Co-sponsored with the Centre for Japanese Research at UBC.
