Extraordinary Papua New Guinea
From August to September 2017, 14 MOA members travelled with curator Dr. Carol E Mayer and conservator Heidi Swierenga on a spectacular adventure in Papua New Guinea, where they experienced one of the most culturally and environmentally diverse regions in the world.
They journeyed through the dramatic Highlands Region, home of the iconic bird-of-paradise, and along the mighty Sepik River which winds its way through breath-taking scenery.
Because of Dr. Mayer’s 10-year-long work in Papua New Guinea and the relationships she has developed there with artists and community leaders, journey members were welcomed and hosted by locals who shared their culture and daily practices with the group, giving them unparalleled experiences and memories of their time there.
