Edward Dumoi (Iatmul)
Edward Dumoi was born in Palembei Village of Papua New Guinea in 1972. Coming from a large family of exceptional carvers, he began at the age of ten with instruction from his father. As well as major ceremonial carvings, Edward is recognized for the creation of sculptures inspired by life in the village, such as a kitten in pursuit of a ball or a dog suckling her puppy.
He recently created a major sculpture of the prime minister of Papua New Guinea, Sir Michael Somare. His work can be found in international collections in Australia, Canada, and the United States.
