Bookings for school kits for the 2024/2025 school year are now open.

MOA offers teaching kits with hands-on materials, activities, and lesson plans for use in the classroom, available for 15-day rentals ($40) and 30-day rentals ($75).

Grades K – 12. Designed as a cross-curricular resource, this teaching kit emphasizes an Indigenous perspective and critical thinking practices that are major components of the new BC curriculum. This teaching kit features a range of resources including maps, stories, community interviews, timelines, short films, an interactive iPad, contemporary belongings and a Teacher’s Resource that includes rich information, activity guides, curricular connections and opportunities for deeper engagement. Price upon request. Only available for 30-day loans.

Shadows, Strings and Other Things: Learning Through Puppetry + Play

Grades K – 12. This kit introduces the rich histories and cultures of puppetry around the world. Using diverse puppets, resource cards, storybooks and a pop-up stage, students will learn through hands-on exploration and creative play. Activities are included to introduce contemporary puppet makers and performers and to inspire students to share their own stories. This resource is drawn from the 2019 MOA exhibition Shadows, Strings and Other Things: The Enchanting Theatre of Puppets.

My Ancestors Are Still Dancing

Grades K – 12. This kit focuses on Tsimshian history and traditions, including Chilkat weaving. As a weaver, William White offers his perspective on the process and cultural value of his works. Included are touchable samples of the materials and stages of Chilkat weaving, large-scale exhibit photos, a teacher’s guide and sourcebook, and the DVD video Gwishalaayt.

Nunavut

Grades 4 – 6. This hands-on kit includes a teacher’s guide, maps, resource materials and touchable objects to introduce students to the Inuit people of Nunavut. The kit focuses on the formation of the territory while demonstrating the vitality of Inuit life today. Touchable objects include snow goggles, an oil lamp and a harpoon.

100 Years of Loss: The Residential School System in Canada

Created by the Legacy of Hope Foundation, this teaching kit supports teachers and students as they examine the history of the Residential School System and the impact it has had, and continues to have, on generations of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. 100 Years of Loss includes a teacher’s guide, lesson plans, an informational DVD, interactive activities and a timeline banner to hang in your class. Loans for this kit are free.
