Create a Turtle: Ghost Net Sculpture Workshop
Saturday March 2, 2019 | 12 – 5 pm
Take part in this special family-friendly workshop to create a baby sea turtle from discarded fishing nets, ropes and other abandoned fishing gear.
Offered for the first time in North America, this workshop is taught by Lynnette Griffiths and Florence Gutchen, artists from the island of Erub in the Torres Strait, Australia. They are a part of a local community of artists who create “ghost net” sculptures to draw attention to the problem of ocean pollution and of the marine animals harmed by it.
These two artists helped create the large-scale “ghost net” turtle and shark currently on display in MOA’s Multiversity Galleries. Florence says, “A beautiful piece of art declaring the message that we must keep the water clean: we look after the sea and the sea looks after us.” Don’t miss out on this unique hands-on learning experience.
Workshop fee includes museum admission and all materials
